WHY IS THIS NECESSARY?

Black students at the University of Kentucky have been fighting for equality through civil demonstration for decades. The university is now celebrating its "70th Year of Integration," but as long as Black students are prohibited from receiving an equal education due to increased financial instability, psychological trauma, emotional distress, and more, we are never truly integrated. We want equality on our campus.

WHO WROTE THE DEMANDS?

The demands were written by nearly 100 Black students at the University of Kentucky during an All-Call in October of 2018. The demands were crafted from a survey of Black students at the university, receiving over 200 responses and data points.

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEMANDS?

The Black Student Advisory Council is the body overseeing the negotiation of the demands. The demands will be maintained by this council in the future.

WHY IS IT ONLY BLACK ORGANIZED?

The Black Student Advisory Council is a new creation that has been adopted formally by the university as an equal partner. The council will be replenished each year with Black students who will keep the movement going.

WHAT CAN I DO AS AN ALLY?

Do not stop talking about injustice, inequality, or discrimination. Talk about the demands whenever you get a chance and to anyone who will listen. Check on students of color who are experiencing discrimination and trauma. Demand transparency and accountability of the administration.
